SUMMARY:Pina Bausch/ Germaine Acogny & Malou Airaudo
DESCRIPTION:From the Sadler’s Website:\nPina Bausch/ Germaine Acogny & Malou AiraudoThe Rite of Spring / common ground[s]\nSell-out runs\, an international tour and five-star reviews herald the return of this iconic double bill. \n\nThe idea of ‘exchange’ is central in this two-part programme which marks the first collaboration between the Pina Bausch Foundation (Germany)\, École des Sables (Senegal) and Sadler’s Wells (UK). \nBausch’s (1975) The Rite of Spring is danced by a newly assembled company of dancers from African countries. In this pioneering work\, with music by Stravinsky\, a ‘chosen one’ is sacrificed changing the season from winter to spring. \ncommon ground[s] is a new work created\, performed and inspired by the lives of two remarkable women: Germaine Acogny\, “the mother of contemporary African dance” and founder of École des Sables and Malou Airaudo who joined Bausch in the early days of Tanztheater Wuppertal and later was a professor and director at Folkwang University. This poetic and tender piece\, the duo’s first collaboration\, examines their shared histories and emotional experiences. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Giselle
DESCRIPTION:The iconic ballet\, reimagined. \n\nFollowing acclaimed performances around the world\, and sold-out shows in Manchester and Bristol in 2023\, Akram Khan’s Giselle returns to Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London for the first time in five years. \nAs the curtain rises\, dancers in shadow push against a forbidding wall. From that moment on\, this ground-breaking production stuns with powerful images. \nMesmerising choreography\, atmospheric lighting by Mark Henderson and a towering set by Academy Award-winner Tim Yip conjure up a condemned factory and the vengeful ghosts that appear in its shadows. \nThe ominous score by Vincenzo Lamagna – adapted from the original by Adolphe Adam and performed live by English National Ballet Philharmonic – intensifies the story’s emotional impact. \nSee the greatest romantic ballet and its story of love\, betrayal\, and redemption\, boldly reimagined. \nEmail us if you would like tickets.
